Golden Jubilee Year

Dear Parishioners and Visitors:

It is my pleasure to announce a special Golden Jubilee Year to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of Saint Andrew Parish and the beginning of our next fifty years.  Saint Andrew Parish was established by Archbishop Coleman F. Carroll, the first Archbishop of Miami, in 1969.  As you might imagine, it was a rather bold step to establish a Catholic parish in such a remote and rural outpost of Broward County as was Coral Springs at that time. Archbishop Carroll’s vision, however, proved providential and Saint Andrew Parish has grown tremendously over the past fifty years. This Golden Jubilee Year is an opportunity for us to recall the past and, more importantly, to look forward enthusiastically to the future.  The theme of the Jubilee Year will be “Renewing all things in Christ”.   I also am establishing a steering committee to work with me on the various special events and initiatives that will be observed throughout the year.

One of the highlights of the Golden Jubilee Year will be the unveiling of a Master Plan for the entire parish and school property, including the vacant lot presently used for overflow parking and the annual Carnival.  The Strategic Planning and Development Committee has been working with me and the architectural firm of Herbert Gallo to assess the present and future needs of the parish community and the best use of the parish property and facilities in accordance with our Parish Mission Statement. Much progress has been made and I will be discussing details of the Master Plan in the near future. The Golden Jubilee Year is also an opportunity for evangelization as we invite others – especially fellow Catholics who might not be practicing the faith – to become active members of our parish. The Church is always to be missionary and evangelical as we share with others the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the grace of the Sacraments, and the fellowship of communion in the Catholic Church.  Another goal of the Golden Jubilee Year is to renew and revitalize the many good things already happening in our parish and parish school. As our Jubilee motto suggests, all renewal must be centered in Jesus Christ who is the same yesterday, today and forever (cf. Hebrews 13:8).  Everything we do in the parish and as a parish must always be rooted in Jesus Christ and because of Jesus Christ; he is the way, the truth and the life (cf. John 14:6).  Every parish ministry and apostolate, all educational endeavors, every liturgical celebration, all acts of justice and charity must be Christ centered and renewed by Him during this Golden Jubilee Year.

We have grown much as a parish in fifty years and we celebrate that with joy.  This Jubilee Year is also a time to move forward ‒ ever faithful to our tradition ‒ and to reinvigorate every aspect of our parish as part of a new evangelization for today and for the future. Prayer must be at the heart of our anniversary celebration, as we seek to discern the will of God for the future of our parish.  Therefore, during this Golden Jubilee Year, I invite you to join me in praying for our parish as we seek to renew all things in Christ.

May the Lord continue to bless you and your families with his love!

Monsignor Michael A. Souckar
